August 14, 2025
BATON ROUGE - This Friday, as the 海角社区 Summer Commencement Ceremony begins, twenty College of the Coast & Environment students will receive their degrees.
鈥淐ongratulations, graduates! From CES majors on the cusp of a professional journey to newly minted Masters and Doctors 鈥 please know your research and scholarship have already helped you make meaningful contributions to coastal and environmental knowledge, and we are proud of you,鈥 said CC&E Dean Clint Willson. 鈥淵ou represent the future of environmental stewardship, and we can鈥檛 wait to see what you do next!鈥
This list includes three students receiving their doctorates in Oceanography & Coastal Sciences, and two in Environmental Sciences. Four will receive Masters in Oceanography & Coastal Sciences and seven will get Masters in Environmental Sciences, from both in-person and online programs and one will get a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Health Science. Three students will receive their Bachelor鈥檚 of Science in Coastal Environmental Science.
These hard-earned degrees bring with them critical knowledge, problem solving and analytical skills that graduates can apply in real-world settings.
Trinity Johnson, who is receiving her PhD in Environmental Sciences, wrote her dissertation on risk communication in Southeast Louisiana. 鈥淭he most important lesson I have learned about research is that it involves not only analysis but also active listening. Building trust with communities, valuing lived experiences, and demonstrating adaptability have been just as crucial as my academic skills,鈥 she said.
Lily Vowels, who is receiving her Masters in Oceanography & Coastal Sciences, said, 鈥淭he biggest thing I've learned during my degree is the complex ways water, sediment, and vegetation interact in coastal systems and how these interactions impact communities.鈥 Vowel will soon be working at the Illinois Geological Survey.
And whether their career journeys keep them in-state or carry them around the world, we know these CC&E alumni will continue to have an impact, whether it's in oceanography, coastal or environmental sciences!
