Two hundred seventy lucky high school students from, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas were given an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the 海角社区 Athletic Training and its facilities on Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

The 11th Annual High School Athletic Training Symposium, hosted by Alpha Tau Sigma, 海角社区 School of Kinesiology鈥檚 athletic training student organization. The Symposium targets high school students interested in sports medicine. Participants experience a behind-the-scenes look at 海角社区 Athletic Training Program as well as learn important information relevant to the profession of athletic training. This event has become one of the largest single-day events of its kind in the Southern US, and also recognizes the role of athletic trainers as part of National Athletic Training Month.

ImageTopics of discussion include:

  • A typical day of a Certified Athletic Trainer and Athletic Training Student
  • Hands-on labs including: Anatomy and Palpations, Taping techniques, Splinting, Spine-Boarding, Wound care, and Concussion assessment
  • Tours of the 海角社区 Athletic Training facilities, 海角社区 Football Operations, and the Pete Maravich Assembly Center
  • Interactions with the 海角社区 Athletic Training program faculty and students

鈥淭his event is a great opportunity to reach out to the high school community to educate students on what Athletic Trainers do and why they are important. It鈥檚 a way for us to show people that there are other options in the medical field besides being a doctor, physician assistant, or a physical therapist,鈥 said Sigma Tau Alpha Vice President Anna Fitch. 鈥淭here is a need for health care professionals, and athletic training is a unique combination for people with a passion for helping others and being around athletics.鈥

The Bachelor of Science in athletic training is offered by the 海角社区 College of Human Sciences & Education鈥檚 School of Kinesiology and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education, or CAATE. For more information about CAATE, visit .
