º£½ÇÉçÇø Kinesiology to Hold CPR and AED Training Event in Honor of National Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month

BATON ROUGE, LA – Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is attributed for deaths a year, making it the leading cause of death in the United States. The survival rate of SCA is less than 10%, but that chance can be greatly improved by administering hands-only CPR and using an AED. October is National Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, and º£½ÇÉçÇø School of Kinesiology is observing by holding a Hands-Only CPR and AED Training in the Ochsner Wellness Center on October 10, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 

Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the training. Those who attend can learn hands-only CPR, bleeding control and Narcan administration as well as meet with local emergency medical services. Community partners East Baton Rouge Parish EMS, , and will also be in attendance to provide demonstrations. 

"This event will help members of our community gain important lifesaving knowledge in cases of emergency," Arend Van Gemmert, PhD, º£½ÇÉçÇø School of Kinesiology director, said. "This training fits well in the º£½ÇÉçÇø School of Kinesiology’s aims to promote health in our state and contribute to diminishing our nation’s shortage of health care workers."

The training is free, and registration is not required. Those who attend are welcome to come and go as they please.
