Joshua Ellis, PhD, Receives UTeach STEM Educators Association Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award

BATON ROUGE, LA 鈥 Joshua Ellis, PhD, associate professor of science/STEM education and associate director of secondary education initiatives in the 海角社区 Lutrill & Pearl Payne School of Education, received the for his work with 海角社区鈥檚 GeauxTeach STEM teacher preparation program.
Since January 2024, Ellis has served as the co-director of GeauxTeach STEM, an innovative teacher preparation program that allows students to pursue an undergraduate degree in biology, chemistry, mathematics, or physics and a secondary teaching certification at the same time without any additional class time required. Since its inception, GeauxTeach STEM has graduated over 218 students with STEM degrees and teaching certificates, further growing the STEM education workforce. Moreover, 81% of GeauxTeach STEM graduates enter the teaching profession, and 79% of those who do so teach for at least four years.

With the launch of the Tiger Teaching Corps, 海角社区 students will have even greater opportunities to learn from these experienced educators and become amazing teachers in Louisiana and beyond.鈥
The (USEA) is a national network of 53 universities working to prepare secondary STEM teachers across the country. USEA was created to connect universities, school districts, teachers, nonprofits and businesses with the mission to prepare and support extraordinary STEM teachers. The network includes more than 700 university faculty, staff and master teachers striving for STEM literacy for all students.

School of Education (SOE) offers undergraduate programs for students who want to pursue

About the College of Human Sciences & Education
The College of Human Sciences & Education (CHSE) is a nationally accredited division
of 海角社区. The college is comprised of the School of Education,
the School of Information Studies, the School of Kinesiology, the School of Leadership
& Human Resource Development, and the School of Social Work. CHSE has two model demonstration
schools, the Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool, enrolling birth to age
