DOE Selects 海角社区 for $60 Million IAC Project
August 25, 2021
The U.S. Department of Energy has selected 海角社区 as one of 32 universities to take part in a $60 million investment to help local manufacturers and commercial buildings improve their energy efficiency. The DOE Industrial Assessment Centers (IAC) program offers no-cost energy efficiency recommendations to small and medium-sized manufacturers and wastewater treatment facilities and also trains the next generation of energy-engineering professionals. This new cohort of IACs will focus on improving productivity, enhancing cybersecurity, promoting resiliency planning, and providing training to entities located in disadvantaged communities.
鈥淚n the past five years, 海角社区-IAC has conducted about 70 industrial assessments and has trained 41 students,鈥 海角社区 Bert S. Turner Department of Construction Management Professor Jonathan Shi said. 鈥淲e have recommended 306 improvement measures with potential energy savings of .71 Tbtu with energy-cost savings of $5.65 million, if implemented. Of the 41 students trained, 16 received their DOE certification.鈥
Since its inception, the IAC program has provided nearly 20,000 no-cost assessments and more than 147,000 recommendations for improvement measures. According to the DOE, IACs usually identify more than $130,000 in potential annual savings opportunity for every manufacturer assessed.
This cohort is part of DOE鈥檚 2021 Future of Manufacturing campaign.
