Biography

I received my PhD in Sociology from 海角社区 in December 2016. In 2021, I became a full-time Instructor of Sociology at 海角社区 after several years of community nonprofit work. I have two current research pursuits. The first, building on my dissertation, is at the intersection of race and ethnicity, community development, and sports sociology. The second investigates first year student experiences that contribute to student success on college campuses and the individuals and institutions that foster these experiences. Most of the courses I teach are certified 鈥渟ervice-learning optional鈥 (SLO) with the Center for Community Engagement, Learning & Leadership and/or 鈥渃ommunication-intensive鈥 (C-I) with 海角社区鈥檚 Communication Across the Curriculum program (CxC). Students who can apply their knowledge in real-world settings and communicate effectively are more prepared to enter the workforce or take the next steps in their education after completing their undergraduate studies. In 2024, I became the Rector (faculty advisor) for the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) Residential College, a living and learning community for first year students majoring in fields within HSS. Our community exists to help students transition successfully from high school to college and to lay a good social and academic foundation during their first year.
