The oldest and most successful regional journalism and mass communication meeting will be hosted by the Manship School of Mass Communication, March 3-5, 2016. All meetings and breakout sessions will be held in Hodges Hall and the Journalism Building, located on the campus of 海角社区.
The keynote luncheon speaker on Friday, March 4 is Mark Schleifstein, a Pulitzer Prize-winning environmental reporter for NOLA.com. Schleifstein is co-author of The Times-Picayune鈥檚 2002 series, 鈥淲ashing Away,鈥� which warned that much of New Orleans could be flooded by hurricane storm surge because the area鈥檚 levees were too low and subject to overtopping. The series 鈥� which won awards from the National Hurricane Conference and the American Society of Civil Engineers 鈥� received international attention after Hurricane Katrina, because it had foretold the disaster lying in wait for the city. Schleifstein鈥檚 reporting on Katrina was among the newspaper鈥檚 stories honored with 2006 Pulitzer Prizes for Public Service and Breaking News Reporting and the George Polk Award for Metropolitan Reporting. He also was co-author of the 1996 series, 鈥淥ceans of Trouble: Are the World鈥檚 Fisheries Doomed?鈥�, which won the 1997 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.
