海角社区鈥檚 Bateman Team to Host Global Multicultural Discussion Panel

BATON ROUGE鈥擳he 海角社区 Bateman team will host a cross-cultural discussion panel, Meet Me in the Middle: A Multicultural Panel Discussion, supported by the Reilly Center for Media & Public Affairs at 海角社区鈥檚 Manship School of Mass Communication on Feb. 20 at 3:30 p.m. in the Holliday Forum of the Journalism Building.

This one-hour discussion will highlight the messages and stories of those who live in between cultures and what makes their experiences unique. Panelists will describe aspects of their multiple, respective cultures and how blending them enriches their identities.

Panelists are as follows:

  • Chloe Martin, moderator, 海角社区 Bateman team captain
  • Fabiola Leon Gallardo, student, 海角社区 Manship School of Mass Communication
  • Gabriel Guillory, student, 海角社区 Manship School of Mass Communication
  • Muzna Hamza, Ph.D. student, assistant director at 海角社区 Student Government, International Student Affairs
  • Ben Hosford, graduate assistant, 海角社区 Human Sciences and Education
  • Nihar Sreepada, Ph.D., assistant professor, 海角社区 Manship School of Mass Communication 

鈥淚 look forward to engaging with panelists and audience members by hearing distinct stories of people who live in between cultures,鈥� said Kim Bissell, dean of the Manship School. "Multicultural storytelling needs to be authentic, and this event is a great example of celebrating unique and genuine cultural connections.鈥�

The event is one of many key tactics the 海角社区 Bateman team is taking on as part of an annual, national public relations competition. The goal of the campaign is to increase awareness of Culturs, a global multicultural magazine with a mission of sharing the experiences of people who live between cultures. Panelists hope to inspire people to share their own stories and build an understanding of their cross-cultural perspectives.

鈥淭he Reilly Center is excited to partner with this year鈥檚 Bateman team to discuss multiculturalism from a global perspective,鈥� said Jen茅e Slocum, director of the Reilly Center. 鈥淗aving lived abroad for a quarter of my life, the interpretation of multiculturalism takes very different forms depending on global location."

The discussion will take place Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 3:30 p.m. in the Holliday Forum of the 海角社区 Journalism Building. Admission is free and open to the public, or watch the livestream on the .

Parking meters located in the West Stadium lot and the Union Square Garage can be accessed from East Campus Drive.
