Program Overview

The Gordon A Cain Center and the Capital Area STEM Network are the Code.org庐 Regional Partners. 

Code.org庐 is an education innovation nonprofit dedicated to the vision that every student in every school has the opportunity to learn computer science as part of their core K-12 education. Code.org expands access to computer science in schools, with a focus on increasing participation by young women and students from other underrepresented groups. As the leading provider of K-12 computer science curriculum in the largest school districts in the United States, Code.org also organizes the annual Hour of Code campaign, which has engaged more than 15% of all students in the world. Code.org is supported by generous donors including Microsoft, Amazon, Google and many others.

You don鈥檛 have to be a software developer to teach computer science!

Our Professional Learning Program supports teachers of any background in feeling confident teaching computer science. Support is provided throughout the academic year as you teach, engage, and empower your students to explore computer science.

Code.org Workshop Information

Whether you are new to teaching computer science (CS) or have experience teaching other CS courses, the Code.org Professional Learning Program is designed to promote growth by providing space for you to become comfortable with curricular materials, CS content, and pedagogy.

What does the application process entail?

Applying is easy and only takes about 10 minutes! Once your application is complete, you can expect to hear from the 海角社区 Cain Center with your acceptance decision within 2-3 weeks. If you are accepted into the Professional Learning program, you are encouraged to register within two weeks to secure your spot.

Is Code.org free?

The curriculum, online student learning platform, and access to support from the teacher and Code.org community are available to all schools year-round, free of charge.

One-day workshops in Code.org鈥檚 Computer Science Fundamentals K-5 curriculum are offered throughout the school year and summer. See below for summer dates or contact us directly for more information.

This includes:

  • A four-day virtual summer workshop, two options:
    • June 23 - 16, 8am - 4pm central ()
    • July 14 -17, 8am - 4pm central ()
  • Synchronous Academic Year Support.
  • Scholarships are available for qualified applicants.
  • Cost of program is $1200.

While the 海角社区 Cain Center is not hosting a regional CSA program , there are several national cohorts being supported by Code.org's Regional Partners. While programs vary slightly, there are options including:

  • A virtual five-day summer workshop.
  • A year-long, facilitated program to support the implementation of AP CSA.
  • Scholarships are available for qualified applicants.
  • Code.org will review your application, and with 海角社区 support, contact you with options for joining a virtual cohort of Computer Science A teachers.
  • Qualifies for CDF Funding.

This includes:

  • A three-day, in-person or virtual summer workshop, three options:
    • June 3, 2025 鈥� June 5, 2025 (Baton Rouge)
    • June 17, 2025 鈥� June 19, 2025 (Virtual)
    • July 15, 2025 鈥� July 17, 2025 (Virtual)
  • Year-long facilitated support to explore and implement select CSD units based on your implementation plan.
  • Additional office hours throughout the year for just-in-time support.
  • Scholarships are available for qualified applicants.
  • Cost of program is $1000.
