Academic Programs Update

Sibel Bargu AtesAs we near the end of the spring semester, it is my pleasure to provide you with a brief glimpse into the 海角社区 College of the Coast & Environment鈥檚, or CC&E鈥檚 academic programs.

One of our greatest joys is welcoming new students to our college. Our undergraduate program continues to be one of the fastest-growing majors at 海角社区. With the launch of our new online master鈥檚 program in environmental sciences, this year we have welcomed 51 new online graduate students to our CC&E family. The Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences has also started developing an online undergraduate certificate program to continue the expansion and enrichment of our education programs. In Fall 2021, we will welcome the first recipient of the Callais Scholarship for the Advancement of Louisiana Coastal and Marine Industries. The recipient of this, as well as our other scholarship recipients, will be revealed on Friday, April 16.

This semester, we began a pilot program offering extra-curricular webinars to our students to help them stay connected. The first two webinars, 鈥淥cean Sciences Vibes鈥 led by Drs. Cassie Glaspie and Dan Holstein, and 鈥淥ur Cities, Ourselves鈥 led by Drs. Thomas Douthat and Rebeca de Jesus Crespo, were well-received not only by our students but also by our faculty.

We continue to enhance our traditional offerings with new online courses, programs, and certificates. As we look forward to graduation next month, we encourage our students, parents, and friends to stay in touch by . We will have more to say about graduation in our June newsletter.

Most of all, we are so proud of our students and excited about the plan (at this time) to return to in-person classes in the fall. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or suggestions.
