海角社区 Craft and Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering Assistant Professor Olufemi 鈥淔emi鈥 Olorode recently received a $500,000 NSF CAREER Award for his cutting-edge energy research that will improve hydrogen gas storage in solid hydrate structures.

The 海角社区 College of Engineering recently held its second annual Evening of Engineering Excellence on April 24 in 海角社区 Stadium Club West, where two new members were inducted into the Hall of Distinction. 海角社区 Industrial Engineering and Computer Science alumnus Mohit "Mo" Vij and 海角社区 Chemical Engineering alumnus Philip Westmoreland were inducted into the 海角社区 College of Engineering Hall of Distinction by Dean Vicki Colvin.

海角社区 CSE Professor Awarded $300,000 NSF Grant

海角社区 Division of Computer Science and Engineering Professor Rahul Shah was recently awarded a $300,315 National Science Foundation grant for his research involving parameterized pattern matching and compressed data structures. Shah's research will affect how text data is stored and will balance compression with fast query performance.

To maintain global leadership in nanotechnology and fully realize its benefits to the economy and national security, the United States must act swiftly to renew and expand its investments, according to a new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The report, titled Quadrennial Review of the National Nanotechnology Initiative, was written by a committee chaired by 海角社区 College of Engineering Dean and Bert S. Turner Chair Vicki Colvin.

海角社区 Craft & Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering Associate Professor Ipsita Gupta recently received a $261,000 research grant from Idaho National Laboratory (INL)/Battelle Energy Alliance and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's Geothermal Technologies Office. The project aims to investigate the potential for critical minerals, specifically lithium, in produced waters from oil and gas fields within Louisiana's Smackover Formation.

Scientists predict that up to 90% of coral reefs could vanish by 2050, and up to half of the world's coral reefs have already been lost or severely damaged. Wanting to protect coastlines and promote the growth of coral reefs and marine life, two 海角社区 Engineering alumni created a company called Natrx whose mission is to use sustainable technologies for resilience challenges.

海角社区 Researchers Awarded $1.5 Million to Advance Worldwide Access to High-Performance Computing

海角社区 researchers have been awarded a $1.5 million Pathways to Enable Open-Source Ecosystems, or POSE, grant from the National Science Foundation to advance the ecosystem surrounding HPX, a software library developed at 海角社区. Their goal is a fast and energy-efficient solution to increase worldwide access to high-performance computing. Lack of access and performance currently limits the success and usefulness of emerging technologies, such as AI and machine learning, and computational modeling in almost every field.

Energy, Cyber Win: Idaho National Lab Solidifies Research Partnership with 海角社区

March 25, 2025 BATON ROUGE 鈥 海角社区 and Battelle Energy Alliance, the company that manages Idaho National Laboratory (INL), have agreed to collaborate in areas of mutual interest, including cybersecurity and advanced nuclear technology, under a memorandum of understanding, or MOU. The MOU to be signed on Friday, March 28 aims to accelerate technology and talent development in Louisiana for the nation. This is the first formal partnership between a national lab and a university in Louisiana.
