海角社区 School of Veterinary Medicine conferred three advanced degrees

The 海角社区 School of Veterinary Medicine conferred three advanced degrees on December 19, 2024. Oliver A. Garden, BVetMed, Ph.D., DACVIM, 海角社区 Vet Med dean, welcomed the graduates and guests. Tammy Dugas, Ph.D., associate dean for research and graduate education, introduced the graduates and asked their mentors to say a few words about their educational journeys. Mark Mitchell, DVM, Ph.D. (海角社区 2001), DECZM, professor of zoological medicine and 海角社区 Graduate School council member, conferred the degrees on behalf of the 海角社区 Graduate School.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY
Tricia Adams, BS, MS, from Prairieville, La, received her Ph.D. in Biomedical and Veterinary Medical Sciences in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. Her dissertation was entitled 鈥淓valuating viability, developmental competence, and chromatin configurations of cryopreserved equine oocytes.鈥 Her major advisors were Carlos Pinto, DVM, Ph.D. (海角社区 2001), DACT; and Mark Mitchell, DVM, Ph.D. (海角社区 2001), DECZM, professor of zoological medicine. Dr. Adams will now serve as a high complexity laboratory director for human IVF laboratories within Ovation Fertility, a subsidiary of U.S. Fertility.
Alexander KK Lee, from New Orleans, La., received his Ph.D. in Biomedical and Veterinary Medical Sciences in the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences. His dissertation was entitled 鈥淒evelopment of a Tensegrity Based 3D Printable Transradial Canine Prosthetic.鈥 His major advisor was Michelle Osborn, Ph.D., associate professor. Dr. Lee is joining the 海角社区 Vet Med faculty member in the anatomy lab in January 2025.
MASTER OF SCIENCE
Michael St. Blanc, DVM (海角社区 2017), from Baton Rouge, La., received his Master鈥檚 degree in Biomedical and Veterinary Medical Sciences in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. His thesis was entitled 鈥淕astrointestinal ischemia in the Horse: Preoperative Detection and Surgical Intervention.鈥 His major advisor was Britta Leise, DVM (海角社区 2002), Ph.D., DACVS, associate dean for staff and faculty advancement and associate professor of equine surgery. Dr St. Blanc will continue in his role as an assistant professor of equine surgery at 海角社区 Vet Med.
