Winners announced for 海角社区 Vet Med鈥檚 31st Annual International Exhibition on Animals in Art

The 海角社区 School of Veterinary Medicine is pleased to announce the award winners for its 31st Annual International Exhibition on Animals in Art, which opened October 4, 2025, and runs through October 31 in the 海角社区 Vet Med Library. The exhibition featured 56 works selected from 302 submissions representing 150 artists from 30 states, Canada, Germany, Guatemala, and Turkey.

This year鈥檚 juror and judge, Callie Smith, Museum Educator and Public Programs Manager at the 海角社区 Museum of Art, selected the following award recipients:

  • Best of Show: Sue deLearie Adair, Couch Potato
  • Judge鈥檚 Award: Tamar Kontrimas, Pumpjack Ibis
  • Judge鈥檚 Award: Emily Weichbrod, Glass Half鈥
  • School of Veterinary Medicine Award: Claudia Benton, Gentle Keeper
  • Honorable Mention: Madeline Cerise, Promise in Motion
  • Honorable Mention: Denise Fuson, Fossil
  • Honorable Mention: Ayako Abe-Miller, Leap Beyond
  • People鈥檚 Choice Award: Claudia Benton, Gentle Keeper

Couch Potato, graphite pencil, by Sue deLearie Adair of Schenectady, N.Y., received the Best of Show award for the 2025 International Exhibition on Animals in Art.

The Animals in Art exhibition celebrates the beauty and emotional power of animals through diverse artistic media. All works in the exhibition are for sale, with 20 percent of each sale benefiting the 海角社区 Vet Med Artist-in-Residence Program, which supports creative engagement within the veterinary community.

Visitors can view the exhibition Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
