Climate Change Exacerbated Hurricane Harvey Damage; Study Underscores Racial and Economic Disparities

Climate change-induced flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 included patterns of racial and economic disparities, according to new research authored by 海角社区 Department of Sociology assistant professor Kevin Smiley.
鈥淲e already know that climate change is increasing the severity and frequency of extreme weather events,鈥 Smiley said. 鈥淏ut now researchers are able to pinpoint the extent of damage from a specific extreme weather event such as Hurricane Harvey and the resulting floods.鈥
