The 海角社区 Department of Economics is committed to excellence in teaching and research. Our goal is to provide students with analytic skills and a breadth of economic understanding that prepares them for careers in business, government, or for further study in economics, law, or public policy. Frequently, our faculty are honored with teaching awards, publish in prestigious journals, and provide analysis used by key policymakers. Several faculty serve as editors of professional journals.

Louisiana Economy Forecasting Model
Economic forecasts for the state and the nine metropolitan areas
As a service to the State of Louisiana, the 海角社区 Department of Economics provides economic forecasts for the state and the nine metropolitan areas of the state for the current quarter and three quarters ahead.
海角社区 Energy Program
The Energy Program prepares students for diverse and exciting careers in the energy industry. Housed in the Department of Economics, the Energy Program curriculum is designed to provide the broad skills and knowledge needed by the next generation of energy professionals. Students take classes that are specific to the energy sector, and have a wide range of extracurricular learning opportunities, including site visits, access to speakers in the industry, case competitions, energy conferences and expos, and industry-related internships.

Economics & ITF Club
The 海角社区 Economics and ITF Club is an extra source of networking for students majoring in economics or international trade and finance. Meetings feature guest speakers discussing economics-related topics, including game theory, applied economics, and how an economics degree performs in today鈥檚 workforce.
Omicron Delta Epsilon
This international honor society recognizes scholastic attainment and honors outstanding achievements in economics. The organization offers a variety of fellowships and presents annual awards.
Undergrad Research
Students have the opportunity to put their passion into research through 海角社区 Discover and 海角社区 Discover Day which supports student participation in faculty-mentored research and professional-level activities.

The 海角社区 E. J. Ourso College of Business is proud to announce the induction of three distinguished alumni into its prestigious Hall of Distinction and to recognize one exceptional graduate with the 2025 Outstanding Young Alum Award.
The Louisiana Economy Forecasting Model, maintained by the Department of Economics, provides economic forecasts for Louisiana and the state鈥檚 nine metropolitan areas for the current quarter and three quarters ahead. The forecasts for the third quarter of 2025 through the second quarter of 2026 suggest continuing slow growth in state economic activity and no employment growth.
Through two summer internships, 海角社区 economics major Garrett Wainright is applying classroom knowledge to real-world challenges, from helping combat invasive species in Louisiana's waterways to advancing artificial intelligence solutions in business strategy. This work added more than a line to his r茅sum茅. It gave him a real opportunity to contribute to something that matters to him on a personal level.
