The 海角社区 E. J. Ourso College of Business has appointed Dr. Andrew Schwarz, professor in the Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information Systems, as the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) 鈥 Faculty Coordinator. This new strategic role underscores the college鈥檚 growing commitment to AI education, research, and workforce development.

In this position, Schwarz will serve in a strategic advisory capacity, leading the development and implementation of a college-wide AI Strategic Plan. His efforts will ensure that both graduate and undergraduate students have opportunities to gain AI competencies through curricular and co-curricular learning pathways.

鈥淎rtificial intelligence is fundamentally reshaping business, and business education must adapt just as boldly,鈥 said Dean Jared Llorens. 鈥淒r. Schwarz鈥檚 expertise, leadership, and passion for emerging technologies make him the ideal person to guide our efforts in integrating AI across the college. This appointment is a key step in preparing our students and faculty to lead in a rapidly evolving digital economy.鈥

As AI Faculty Coordinator, Schwarz will also lead initiatives that connect industry partners with the college, helping to align academic programming with workforce needs and build strong career pipelines for students. Additionally, he will provide strategic advisement on interdisciplinary research and assist in identifying philanthropic and external funding opportunities that support the college鈥檚 AI initiatives.

Schwarz brings a dynamic blend of academic achievement and industry experience to the role. Before earning his PhD in Management Information Systems from the University of Houston, he worked in the market research field, developing advertising strategies and predictive models for Fortune 500 companies. His academic research explores technology acceptance, IT governance, and the implementation of emerging technologies in organizations. Ranked among the top 1% globally for research productivity in top-tier journals, his work has been featured in MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, and Journal of the Association for Information Systems, among others. Most recently, he spearheaded the AI in Action Symposium, an event hosted by the E. J. Ourso College, exploring the transformative potential of AI across key sectors of the Louisiana economy.
