President's Address

Greetings All,

There is a lot that I feel I should address in this newsletter, but addressing any of it won't change anything. I don't have information or updates to share about any of the rumor mill or potential changes that may or may not be coming. Suffice it to say, I am watching, reading, and advocating for staff at every possible chance I get. So I won't spend any more time on these topics, as they detract from the downright magical week we had with staff last week and the recognition due to some very special people.

Y'all, I have said it before, but I will say it again, Staff Appreciation Week is my favorite week of the year! I could not have asked for a better week celebrating all of our amazing staff. Thank you to everyone who helped make this a success - Campus Federal, º£½ÇÉçÇø Athletics, Facility & Property Oversight, Auxiliary Services, President Tate, and of course, all of our Senators who volunteered countless hours to make this week a smashing success. From taking tours of the Tiger Stadium and seeing all the smiles and pics, to jambalaya and t-shirts at the tailgate, enjoying 1,300 pounds of crawfish, and topping it all off with an ice cream social with 300 of my favorite staff members. While we did get rained on a little, I went home each day with such a full heart thinking "it can't possibly get any better than this!"

But Wednesday is the day I will always remember when I had the honor of presenting our Staff Stripes Awards to eight staff members that y'all nominated for their outstanding service to º£½ÇÉçÇø. I spent the morning surprising the winners, some with their teams' help, to present them with their award and a tiger-striped cookie. Each winner was so thankful and honored to be recognized by their peers in such a way. The smiles and tears made every single moment of hard work and added gray hair for the week worth it! A few of the things their peers said about the winners included "representative of what it truly means to bleed purple and gold," "epitome of Louisiana hospitality and Tiger pride," and my personal favorite, "ALWAYS has a smile… always helps others and always lends a helping hand." Congratulations to our winners who continue to model the behavior they want to see at º£½ÇÉçÇø and in the world!
