Micromobility Research Project Brings E-scooters to 海角社区's Flagship Campus

海角社区 is partnering with Spin, a San Francisco-based company working with over 70 North American cities and campuses on micromobility solutions, to provide electric scooter transportation for students, faculty, staff and visitors on the Baton Rouge campus. The initiative is part of an 海角社区 micromobility research project on transportation sustainability and efficiency.

As the demand for electric vehicles, cell phones, and computers continues to grow, so does the demand for lithium used in lithium-ion batteries. While this soft, alkali metal known as 鈥渨hite gold鈥 is abundant in certain countries, the mining process and safety issues are of concern to researchers. One such researcher is 海角社区 Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor Ying Wang, who is using a Board of Regents grant to design a non-metal rechargeable battery that could one day replace lithium batteries on Earth and in space.

海角社区 Joins Louisiana Department of Education for STEM Micro-Credentialing Project

With STEM learning gaining speed, it鈥檚 more important than ever for Louisiana to provide its high school educators the opportunity to earn micro-credentials in order to teach STEM subjects to their students. The $4 million, five-year Education Innovation and Research grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Improving Pre-Engineering and Computer Science Education through Micro-Credentialing, is a collaboration among 海角社区, the Louisiana Department of Education, BloomBoard Inc., and RAND Corporation that involves the development, implementation, and testing of a set of micro-credentials designed to help teachers demonstrate proficiency in STEM competencies.
