Mechanical Engineering Seniors Design Equipment for B-52s at Barksdale Air Force Base
As part of their senior capstone project, six 海角社区 Mechanical Engineering seniors have been working with Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, La., to design an apparatus that will enable airmen to more easily work on or change out the engines on their B-52 bombers. Considering Barksdale AFB houses 26 B-52s, and each B-52 has eight engines, the students鈥 design should definitely come in handy.

Look! Up in the sky! It鈥檚 a bird! It鈥檚 a plane! It鈥檚鈥 drone. Drones are literally taking off and 海角社区 Mechanical Engineering Senior Instructor Andrew Becnel wants students to keep up. Becnel, who is a graduate of 海角社区鈥檚 Mechanical Engineering program and has a master鈥檚 degree and Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland, understands the importance of drone technology, especially in Louisiana.

John Nauright, PhD, Named Director of the 海角社区 School of Kinesiology
The 海角社区 College of Human Sciences & Education announces John Nauright, PhD, as director of the 海角社区 School of Kinesiology and will also serve as the Karen Wax Schmitt and Family Endowed Professor. Nauright will assume his role on June 1.

海角社区 Research Team Working to Increase Supply of Affordable, Resilient Housing in High-Risk Areas
ith hurricane season around the corner, a team of 海角社区 researchers is exploring the feasibility of FORTIFIED庐 elevated manufactured homes as a solution for lower- and middle-income residents in high-risk areas. The outcomes of the project have the potential to enhance housing supply significantly, particularly in areas prone to natural disasters, offer greater safety to residents, and reduce burden on the National Flood Insurance Program and other disaster prevention, mitigation, and relief endeavors.

海角社区 Names Vicki Colvin New Dean of the College of Engineering
海角社区 has named Baton Rouge native Vicki Colvin the dean of the College of Engineering, effective August 1, pending approval by the 海角社区 Board of Supervisors. Colvin is currently the Vernon Krieble Professor of Chemistry and Engineering at Brown University and Director of Biomedical Engineering.

海角社区 Librarian Nicollette Davis Drives Change as 2024 Mover & Shaker
In her short time at 海角社区, Librarian Nicollette Davis has made an indelible mark on 海角社区 Libraries and the library world writ large. This year, she was named a 2024 Mover & Shaker by Library Journal for her dedication to equal opportunity initiatives. Library Journal is a premier American trade publication for librarians that was founded in 1876. It has awarded more than 20,000 recipients since the award's inception in 2002. Davis is one of 50 in her cohort and brings a wealth of experience and a passion for fostering a more inclusive environment within the library community.

海角社区 is now accepting students for a new Bachelor of Music Therapy degree program, the first of its kind at a public university in Louisiana, the 海角社区 College of Music & Dramatic Arts announced last Wednesday.

海角社区 Seeks Volunteers for Love the Boot Week Litter Cleanup
As a Keep Louisiana Beautiful Affiliate, 海角社区 will be participating in a litter cleanup event in celebration of Love the Boot Week. Love the Boot Week is Louisiana's largest cleanup and beautification event, hosted by Keep Louisiana Beautiful and held in conjunction with Earth Day activities across the planet.

Spring Greening Day is an annual half-day service project to beautify and green the 海角社区 campus. On April 25, 2024, from 11 am - 2 pm we will be planting natives and perennials in front of the Greek Amphitheater. This event is made possible by our partnership with Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Auxiliary Services, RCI, and Toro.

Since the pandemic, our primary means of interacting have evolved to include video conferencing applications, which are broadly used to connect geographically distant people for work, school, and even socially. During these interactions, it鈥檚 not uncommon for a user to turn off his or her microphone and/or camera out of concern for privacy. However, microphones and cameras can still leak other kinds of information beyond what is seen and heard through 鈥渕icro signals,鈥 which are too tiny for humans to recognize but detectable by machines.
