Louisiana supports approximately 15 percent of the nation鈥檚 oil and 10 percent of its natural gas.

And Louisiana has the second-highest oil refining capacity in the U.S., with the state鈥檚 14 refineries processing approximately 3 million barrels of oil per day. In 2021, Louisiana exported over $44 billion of hydrocarbon based products鈥攊ncluding liquid fuels, liquefied natural gas, chemicals, and plastics鈥攚orldwide.

That makes 海角社区 ground zero for the research, education, and training that is driving this ever-changing industry. Due to our expertise and geographic location, we are uniquely positioned to partner with industry and government agencies to advance new discoveries and to provide the highest practical and theoretical educational opportunities for the next generation of Louisiana鈥檚 and America鈥檚 energy workforce. Among our goals is to expand our research platform aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions to create new opportunities and long-term jobs to power Louisiana and the nation. Join us as we build a national model for energy-related collaboration at the intersection of science and engineering.

鈥淟ouisiana is a great example of corporations, government, and society coming together to address climate change and support a changing energy system. In partnership with 海角社区, we can build on this legacy of oil and gas prosperity while further developing lower-carbon energies and technologies to progress Louisiana鈥檚 energy future.鈥

Energy Innovation in Action

To meet growing energy needs, the United States plans to triple its nuclear capacity by 2050. Meanwhile, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are investing in small nuclear reactor technology to help meet the enormous energy needs of AI data centers. More than 30 companies have announced plans for advanced reactors, which are evolutions of those that have been powering nuclear submarines for 70 years.

The 海角社区 Energy Institute has named Tyler Gray as its inaugural director of energy innovation, a key leadership role within 海角社区鈥檚 expanding energy research and policy enterprise. Gray鈥檚 appointment marks an important step in 海角社区鈥檚 continued move to align energy-focused units under a single institute to serve Louisiana鈥檚 evolving energy economy.

Meet Arushi Ghildiyal who recently graduated from 海角社区 with a degree in cybersecurity at 20 years old and is now working for one of the nation鈥檚 best cybersecurity teams at Chevron.
